Yes, I'm an Intern

Hello all,

Today I want to talk about me. (Lol)

My name is Marnise and I am currently interning remotely as a publicity intern for an online publishing company. This is my second remote internship. For all of you out there who live a ways away from major publishing hot spots like NYC, there are still ways to break in to the industry from the comfort of your own home.

Originally I was interested in interning at a literary agency and studying to become a Literary Agent. My first internship at a small online publisher actually ended up being heavily focused on publicity and public relations than editorial work. At the end of the 6 month internship my interest in publicity was peeked. With publicity in mind, I searched again for internships. I was lucky enough to find exactly what I was looking for. I have been interning since mid august and I love it. It is completely different from what I was expecting but at the same time, thrilling and each new assignment makes me love what I'm doing.

I have done everything from sending review copies to doing media research and outreach. I contact some of my favorite bloggers with information on books. (total fan-girl moments!) I am patiently awaiting my next assignments!

An Introduction: Why Publishing

Hello,

My name is Marnise and I want to work in publishing.

Why the publishing industry? I'm often asked that very question. More often then not my answer is, "Why not the publishing industry." I've been told again and again that the industry is dissolving, that it won't whether the new age of technology.  But all I see around me is evolution, advancement, and determination. Why wouldn't I want to be apart of that?

I've been a lover of books since primary school. Oddly enough, the first book I ever read and enjoyed was Harry Potter. After that, it was a world wind of novels both old and new, from classic literature to scientific fiction and fantasy. I've enjoyed classics, romances, and mystery. I spent of my childhood lost in a world I could only get to between the pages of my favorite books.

And now, I am finally involved in the process I love so much.

I am currently working as a publicity intern with a remote publishing company. This is my second internship and I love already. The more I work in publishing the more I feel as if I've found my calling.

This blog will be dedicated to publishing. Chronicling my experiences, and what I learn about the industry I love.

Thank you for reading,

Marnise
